About me

My early career was spent in the military followed by what was then universally regarded as the world’s most creative advertising agency. I then located to Sydney and started my own ad business which I sold a few years later to establish my leadership and communication advisory Robertson Burns.

For over three decades, I am privileged to have helped thousands of people across 30 countries, from chairs and CEOs of global corporations to sports teams, NFPs, high profile families, executives, professionals, entrepreneurs, scientists, politicians and emerging talent.

Helping them step up, overcome challenges, influence others, build teams, grow their careers, win mandates (total aggregated wins to date: >6 billion USD), achieve their goals and, in many cases, discover personal fulfilment.

My aim is to maximise their effectiveness as leaders and communicators. And to ensure they can be their own personal ‘model of excellence’, even in the most challenging circumstances. Only in this way will they, as true leaders, have others listen, believe and come with them.

I’m proud to have set so many people, from diverse

backgrounds and with different skillsets and personalities, on the path to true leadership, to have helped them make a real impact and a worthwhile difference – for themselves and for those around them.

Clients describe me as 'passion in a suit' and working with me as 'being Larry’d'. For a Brit (actually part Scot and part French), former army officer and ad man, I am unusually self-effacing and readily acknowledge I can be an acquired taste. And, happily, while my passion is undimmed, I wear a

suit less often than I used to!
